Dr Neil GrantAchieving Operational Effectiveness - Dr. Neil Grant - Director Babcock Marine
- HM Naval Base Clyde

Colin Barr Associates has worked with Babcock Marine at HM Naval Base Clyde, for a number of years to provide external process improvement services. Two specific areas of work have been:

The design and deployment of an organization-wide performance metrics system.

Delivering our “Change Leader” programme which develops in-house talent to achieve process change and improvement in a successful manner.

Both of the above fit within a wider strategic framework developed by Neil Grant which is aimed at achieving Operational Effectiveness. The financial challenge facing the organization is to reduce running costs by £40m per year over a ten-year timeframe. In his paper Dr Grant discusses how adopting a 4-phase framework spanning a projected 8-10 years has already proved invaluable in structuring and time phasing all of the available approaches to improvement.
